简介
高剑父(1879.10.12-1951.6.22),广东番禺人。早年师事居廉。1903年赴澳门求学。1906年游学日本,毕业于东京美术院。1908年归国,主持广东同盟会,广州起义中任联军总司令。辛亥革命后,从事美术教育,创办春睡画院、南中美术院,历任广东省立工业学校、广州市立艺专、南中美术院校长,中山大学、中央大学艺术系教授,广东美术会会长。1949年移居澳门,1951年6月22日卒于澳门。与陈树人、高奇峰一起致力于中国画改革,后人称岭南画派。擅画山水、花鸟、走兽,亦作人物画,兼长书法。早期作品有《弱肉强食》、《秋风》、《东战场的烈焰》等。作品《红叶苍鹰图》藏广东省博物馆;《雨景图》藏故宫博物院;《鸢尾蜻蜓》藏中国美术馆。著有《印度艺术》、《中国现代的绘画》、《艺术新路向》等。出版有画集、画册多种。五弟奇峰(1889—1933)、幼弟剑僧(1894—1916)均擅画,惜早逝。

年表
1879年,农历8月27日出生于广州番禺大石,在家中排行第四;
1892年,拜居廉为师正式学画,并受其赏识,得以居在其“啸月琴馆”;
1896年,因生计所迫,向同门伍德彝行拜师礼,入居“镜香池馆”,得以遍览粤中名收藏家之蔽品;
1896年,友人伍汉翘资助到澳门格致书院读书,学习西方新学,英文及炭笔素描和油画技法;
1906年,在两广优级师范学堂、高等工业学堂任图画教员,与潘达微等人合办《时事画报》鼓吹革命;
1906年,东渡日本,先后参加“白马画会”等艺术团体活动,并结识廖仲恺、孙中山等人,7月加入中国同盟会;
1909年,中国同盟会广州支会成立,高剑父被指派为会长,随后策划了广州hei2义等一系列革命活动;
1911年,广州革命军宣布成立,高剑父被推为最高统帅机构“海陆军团协会”副会长,力辞广东提督一职;
1912年,发行《真相画报》;
1913年,与宋铭黄女士结婚,育有女励华,子励民;
1921年,与老友陈树人、五弟高奇峰等一起倡办全省“第一次美术展览”,推动“新国画运动”;
1923年,创办“春睡画院”,设帐授徒;
1930年,赴印度出席亚洲教育大会,受到泰戈尔及印度美术界的欢迎,随后游历印度各省;
1938年,抗战爆发后,广州沦陷日军手中,高剑父迁春睡画院于澳门,积极为抗战筹款,并拒绝与日军及汉奸合作,保持高风亮节;
1945年,日本投降后,回广州重开春睡画院,并创办南中艺术专门学校;
1949年,将春睡画院全部产业捐赠给文化大学,移居澳门;
1951年5月22日,病逝于澳门镜湖医院。

 

Brief Introduction

 

Gao Jianfu (1979. 10. 12 – 1951. 6. 22) A native of Fan Yu, Guangdong, in his early years, he followed Ju Lian as teacher. In 1903, he went to Macau to study and in 1906 studied overseas in Japan and graduated from Tokyo Art Institute. Returned to China in 1908 and was in charge of the Guangdong Alliance Association. He was the commander in chief of the united forces during the Guangzhou Uprising. After the 1911 Revolution, he was engaged in art education and started “Spring Sleep Academy” and “Nan Zhong Art Academy”. Over the years, he worked for Guangdong Provincial Industrial School, Guangzhou Municipal Art College, and worked as president of Nan Zhong Art Academy, as well as professor of art department at Zhong San University and Central University. He was president of Guangdong Art Association. He moved to Macau in 1949 and passed away on June 22, 1951.

 

Working together with Zhen Shu Ren and Kao Chih Fung, he made efforts to reform Chinese painting. They were later known as the Ling Nan Painting Style Group. He was good at mountain and water, flower and birds, animals and also people, while also good at calligraphy. His early works included “The Strong Eats the Weak”, “Autumn Wind”, “Great Fires at the East Battlefield”, etc. His work “Red Leaves and the Eagle” is in the collection of Guangdong Museum, “Raining Scenes” at Palace Museum, “Iris and Dragonflies” at the China Art Museum. His published books: “Art of India”, “Modern Chinese Paintings” and “New Directions of Art”, as well as many painting collections. His fifth younger brother Chih Feng (1889 – 1933) and youngest brother Chien Tseng (1894 – 1916) were all excellent painters but unfortunately all died young.

 

Chronology

 

1879 Born in Fan Yu, Da Shih, Guangdong, on August 27 (Chinese calendar). He was No. 4 of the children.

 

1892 followed Ju Lian as teach to formally learn painting, received high praise from teacher and was able to live at “Sing to the Moon Harp House”

 

1896 due to poor life conditions, followed fellow school mate Wu Teh Yi as teacher as to be able to live “Fragrant Mirror Pond House” and was able to view the scarce collections of famous collectors of Guangdong

 

1896 with the financial help of friend Wu Han Chih, went to Macau Ke Chih Academy to study, learning western knowledge, English and charcoal sketch and oil painting skills

 

1906 working as painting teacher in the normal schools and senior industrial school. At the same time, started “Current Event Pictorial News” with Pan Da Wei to promote revolution.

 

1906 went east to Japan and joined “White Horse Painting Association” group activities and met with Liao Zhong Kai, Sun Yat Sen. Joined the China Alliance Group in July.

 

1909 the Guangzhou Branch of the China Alliance Group was established. Gao Jianfu was appointed head and planed a series of activities including the Guangzhou Uprising.

 

1911 Guangzhou Revolutionary Army was established and Gao Jianfu was vice chairman of the highest commander of Navy/Army Association but resigned from being the Guangdong Governor

 

1912 published “The Truth Pictorial”

 

1913 married Ms. Sung Ming Huang and had daughter Li Hua and son Li Ming

 

1921 initiated the first provincial art exhibition with old friend Zhen Shu Ren and fifth younger brother Gao Chih Feng and promoted the “New Chinese Painting Movement”

 

1923 established “Spring Sleep Academy” and started teaching students

 

1930 went to India for the Asian Education Conference and received welcome from Tagore and Indian Education community, followed by travel and touring various provinces in India

 

1938 at the outbreak of Anti-Japanese war, Guangzhou was in the Japanese army’s hands, Gao Jianfu moved “Spring Sleep Academy” to Macau and actively raised money for fighting the Japanese. He refused to work with the Japanese and the Chinese traitors to maintain his style

 

1945 after the Japanese surrender, returned to Guangzhou and re-opened “Spring Sleep Academy” and at the same time started “Nan Zhong Art Academy

 

1949 donated all the properties of “Spring Sleep Academy” to Cultural University and moved to Macau to live

 

1951 on May 22, died at the “Mirror Lake Hospital” in Macau
